Season was a Success!

The 2003 SIS Cross Country season finished in record breaking fashion as the team had a combined record of 19-1 and finished 7th in the state for the championship at Wickham Park. Medallers were Keith Sansone, Mark Turczak, Mark Cataudella, Keith Henion, Ken Lombardi, and Justin LaCoursiere. In the girls race, Ashley Sarris and Casey McCoy medalled.
On Monday Sept 29th, Shelton went to Naugatuck and battled the elements and two tough competitors in City Hill and Hillside Middle Schools. The girls were victorious in sweeping the meet. They beat both opponents and finished with the 2,3,5,6,7th place finishers for a total of 23 points! Shelton was led by Ashley Sarris, Liz Cumings, Victoria Roehrich, Christina Lavigne, and Erika Moran as those finishers. The girls had 25 runners in the race. The Lady Vikings defeated both Naugatuck schools. The boys team finished second with 41 points, just one point behind winner and first place finisher Hillside with 40 points. City Hill finished in third with 47 points- ( first 5 runners for each time across the line and add up the points- lowest total wins.) Shelton was led by John Karpinski who finished 5th, Mark Turczak 6th, Mike Fitzgerald 7th, and Andrew Carroll and Keith Sansone 11th, 12th. The boys had 64 runners in the race.
On Wed Sept 24, the boys and girls team completed a meet sweep of Joseph Melillo Middle School of East Haven. In the girls race, team Captain Ashley Sarris won with a time of 15:13 in a 1.85 mile run. She was followed by Liz Cumings, Christina Lavigne, Lauren Flament, and Erika Moran rounding out the top five. A total of 16 girls competed. In the boys race, Captain Keith Sansone set a blistering pace of 12 minutes and 39 seconds followed by Mark Turczak, John Karpinski, Chris Imbimbo, and Mike Fitzgerald. In the boys race, there were 41 runners total.
Captain Ashley Sarris and Keith Sansone lead the Vikings into the fall season. The team is strong this year and is made up of 41 runners! There is great competition for the top 15 spots that will be earned and run in the state championships.
